The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of more than 17,000 professional women of African descent in 299 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.
The Greater New York Chapter of the Links, Incorporated was organized by Dorothy Reed and Bernia Austin at the invitation of Margaret R. Hawkins and Sarah S. Scott of Philadelphia, co-founders of The Links, Incorporated. The Greater New York Chapter was chartered with eight members on May 21, 1949 at an installation service held at the Hotel Theresa in New York City.
The Greater New York Chapter of the Links, Incorporated is the founding New York chapter and is comprised of members who reside in all five boroughs, Westchester County, and Long Island. Members of the Greater New York Chapter have devoted thousands of volunteer hours over the years to the community, including by mentoring and supporting the leadership of students, providing arts education to students, and providing supportive services to senior citizens throughout New York City.
