About The Links, Incorporated

The Links, Incorporated – The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of more than 17,000 professional women of African descent in 299 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry

About the Greater New York (NY) Chapter

The Greater New York (NY) Chapter -In response to an invitation by Margaret R. Hawkins and Sarah S. Scott of Philadelphia, co-founders of The Links, Incorporated, Greater New York Chapter was organized by Dorothy Reed and Bernia Austin. Honored by the presence of co-founder Sarah Scott, Greater New York Chapter was chartered on May 21, 1949, with eight members at an installation service held at the Hotel Theresa in New York City.

The Greater New York Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, was the first chapter established in New York and comprises members from all five boroughs, Westchester, and Long Island. Members of the Greater New York Chapter have devoted thousands of volunteer hours through the years to causes such as providing student exposure to STEM education and careers, mentoring students, providing thousands of dollars in scholarships annually, providing arts education to children and providing supportive services to senior citizens throughout New York City.
