On Tuesday, March 26th in support of the Year of Women and Girls, during women’s history month, the Greater New York Chapter of the Links joined with the Women’s Forum of New York for the first time to host a special international briefing and wine & cheese reception.

The reception gave members of the two organization an opportunity to celebrate the appointment of Shireen L. Dodson as the new Ombudsman, and Assistant Secretary General. Ombudsman Dodson is the first woman of color to receive this senior position in the UN leadership and also a Link in the Potomac Chapter in Maryland. She gave the 50 guests in attendance a briefing on her new responsibilities and the UN programs both organizations can support.

Sponsored by the Greater NY International Trends and Services (ITS) Facet, this was a historic milestone for both organizations whose memberships exclusively include professional women and a global reach with Chapters Internationally. The fifty guests included a student from the GNY Links Stem program. (See photo gallery above). The Women’s Forum president committed to aspiring to host this event annually with the Greater NY Links Chapter as joint activity in Women’s History Month.
